State Representative Steve Crisafulli (R-Merritt Island) is this year’s recipient of the Florida Forestry Association’s Legislator of the Year Award. Each year the Association recognizes a deserving House and Senate member for their support of issues important to the growers and users of Florida’s forest resources.

LOGGER OF THE YEAR
A Branford logging company has been recognized as Florida's Logger of the Year by the Florida Forestry Association. T. W. Byrd’s Sons, Inc. was recognized as the state’s best logger last week in St. Augustine.

TREE FARMER OF THE YEAR
Ellis and Sara Smith, owners of a 99-acre tree farm east of Tallahassee have been recognized as the 2011 Florida Tree Farmer of the Year. On the eve of their 61st wedding anniversary, the Leon County couple was recognized with the awardat the Florida Forestry Association Annual Meeting on September 8th in St. Augustine.

SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY AWARD
Reid Hughes, Board member of Audubon of Floridahas presented this year’s Audubon Sustainable Forestry Award to Pinellas County Utilities Department for their management of the Cross Bar/Al Bar Ranches. For the first time in the award’s history, the award was presented to a government agency instead of a single person. Dave Slonena accepted the award for Pineallas County Utilities.
