TALES from the TRAIL!
Jimmy Rane

Blaze your own trail, and don’t necessarily go where everybody else is going. That’s one life principle of many that Jimmy Rane, founder, chairman, and CEO of Great Southern Wood has practiced for years. Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc. (Great Southern Wood), got its start in 1970 when Jimmy Rane, a senior in law school, tried to mediate a family dispute concerning his late father-in-law’s estate, which included a small wood treating operation in the small town of Abbeville, Alabama. Little did he know that he would one day be a leading force behind the industry’s leading brand, YellaWood® brand pressure treated pine, and that “Yella Fella,” the character he plays in the company’s commercials, would become something of an advertising icon.  In the course of four decades, Rane has built a household brand name in a commodity category where other consumer brands didn’t previously exist. Hear more about overcoming challenges and creating value from Mr. ”Yella Fella”  himself at the President’s Dinner on September 9.

On the Upside of Down

Participants at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Florida Forestry Association are in for a great time, with great people at a great place. We are going back to Sandestin’s Baytowne Village, one of our favorite venues, for the September 8-9 event.

A special highlight of the meeting will be the Farm Credit Breakfast with Joe Malarkey on September 9. A one-man-show, Malarkey will share "The Upside of Down", a perfect message for challenging times.  Energetic, fast-paced and laughter-packed, Joe manages to entertain, while unveiling new opportunities that are hidden in adversity. Hope never sounded so funny! Registration materials will be mailed in mid-June. For now mark your calendar and plan to be with us for Annual Meeting 2010!
