Oct 2, 2008 Florida Forestry Association Cross City Forester to Lead Florida Forestry Association

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Michael L. Gaff, Location Manager-Wood & Fiber Supply responsible for providing logs for Hawthorne Plywood and Cross City Chip ‘N Saw for Georgia-Pacific is the new President of Florida Forestry Association. Gaff was elected at the Association’s Annual Meeting held in Panama City on September 4.

He has been on the Association Executive Committee since first being elected vice-president in 2004. He has served on the Association Board of Directors since 1993. His term as President will be for two years.

As President, Gaff plans to continue the Association’s government affairs focus to assure that the decision makers in Tallahassee and in Washington understand that the Florida forestry community can continue to grow and provide fiber for traditional forest products, recreation, clean air and water, and contribute to the energy needs of our nation. “The Association will continue to embrace sustainable forestry practices to protect water quality, enhance our green space and provide habitat for Florida's birds and animals, while growing trees for future generations,” Gaff exclaimed.

Joining Gaff of the 2008-10 leadership team is:
President-elect: Bryan Olmert, President, Loncala, Inc., High Springs
Vice President: Lynetta Usher Griner, Secretary/Treasurer, Usher Land & Timber, Chiefland
Secretary/Treasurer: Bob Cook, Executive Vice President, Great South Timber and Lumber, Lake City

The Florida Forestry Association is the only statewide non-profit trade organization representing the interests of landowners, loggers, foresters and the forest products industry in Florida. With total sales exceeding $16.6 billion, Florida’s highest-valued agricultural product is trees.
