Tallahassee, FL – October 1, 2009 – The Florida Forestry Association has honored Allen, Bea and Dwayne Crews of Callahan as Florida’s Outstanding Logger for 2009. The award was presented to Dwayne Crews in St. Augustine recently during the Association’s Annual Meeting.

Allen R. Crews, Jr. has been in the wood fiber business for 58 years. In 1958, he bought a 1949 Ford F600 truck and a wheel saw for $600 and began working for himself. Allen, now seventy-three, still loads wood every day and seldom misses work.

The name of the business, “A&B Crews & Sons, Inc., was formed by taking the first initials of Allen and his wife Beatrice and completed by the addition of “& Sons” to include Dwayne and Randy. Dwayne has been instrumental in developing strategies to keep the business economically efficient and productive. The camaraderie and respect shared by this Father and Son team in the woods is evident to anyone and everyone that meets them.

Dwayne has also been an outspoken advocate for the timber harvesting industry by submitting articles and information to area newspapers and sponsoring a “Florida Teachers Tour”.  A&B Crews & Sons, Inc. is a member of the Southeastern Wood Producers Association and the Florida Forestry Association.
