Tallahassee, FL – October 1, 2009 -- The Florida Forestry Association Distinguished Service Award is the Association’s highest honor. This year Major Clayton Tyson, Florida Department of Transportation, Office of Motor Carrier Compliance received the Award.
In presenting the Award, Jeff Doran, Executive Vice President, Florida Forestry Association recognized Major Tyson as a true public servant. Much of his 31 years of law enforcement is dedicated to education. For nearly 15 years he has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the highly successful Master Logger program. The program provides training for professional loggers in truck and highway safety, environmental responsibility and business management. Over 500 Florida loggers have completed the education course.
Doran, said of Tyson “he is someone who is always there when we call on him;
someone who is dedicated to keeping our roadways safe; someone who understands the importance of the forest industry, and is dedicated to improving the public’s perception of our logging force. Being raised in Sumter County, this guy understands what it takes to be a logger. In fact, his father and brother worked in the loggin’ woods and ran a small sawmill. He is one of us,” Doran concludes.
